Ariel 500 VG 1949
An excellent example of a Classic 1949 Ariel VG 500cc single cylinder motorcycle in unrestored near original condition. Genuine 18,525 miles with 1 owner from new until 1984 and then on exhibit at the Normal Ball Transport Collection in Ryde until 1991 and purchase by me in 1998.
There are few classic bikes that rival the torque and tell-tale note of a powerful single cylinder machine and this is a fine example of that. As I hope the photo’s show she is not in showroom condition, but carries the original patina resulting from 70 years of light service and polishing. Classic Bikes do not require an MOT or Road Tax, are an amazing ride and also a great investment increasing in value with age and rarity.
Very little has been replaced other than the consumables need to keep her in good working order. Around 10 years ago she was partially rewired due to crumbling rubber and cloth wound wiring causing shorts. The regulator has been upgraded for reliability as well as the addition of a passive oil filter, both of which are simply and completely reversible for originality. I have not ridden the machine for a number of years, but she starts well but would benefit from timing and poss fuel mix adjustments for best road going performance.
I am happy to help with any questions and arrange a viewing. Also advertising elsewhere which could result in this listing being withdrawn at short notice.
